R.B.E.'s were not as numerous as in':previous years.: games and.woikali~e I~ere very good. • Not.only did we win the Hou,se Cup but we gained, the \Vormald Sports .Cup 1fnd the Wormald Match Cup. , Members of Barnes House have shown that improvement is possible; but there is.still room' for greater ~ffort. Mouse was far too complacent and unenthusiastic about both work an? games, and through care, lessness and not observing the School rules, a large number of Red Book entries accumulated which' coul!! have easily been avoid,ed.. , j\gain Wren was !Jeaten at both Hockey a~d Tennis. It: IVas difficult to,make up either a Hockey or TenniS team as Wren had so few-seniors. Od j~ly 5th th~ Architecture Class of VB, with som~'of y" an.d VI, visited Salisbury with Mrs. Raad and Mrs. Luton. .. . We walked ,o,!nd the outside' of the Cathedral, noting the ,beautiful· situati.on, the Georgian. houses of the Close and the .. period" decorations and, mouldings. We were· lucky enough to pe:shown some fourteenth'century Flemish stained glass, which was ~eing reI!loyed for safety. . • Inside, we saw the clever ~evice of'the'Early English architect to counteract the marshy nature of the'site, and admired the massive. -jet graceful piers. We ·walked all round till we were weary, then fourid it was raining, so lunclied' under trees and returried to the Cathedral, where a verger kindly gave us somdnteresting .tit·bits "bout tombs and the steeple: After viewing all the 'sights available to the pUblic (t.he Chapter·house is not), we hurried to the G,mmont Theatre', onc~ the Halle Of John Halle, where .we saw , contemporary wood·carving. and the Miristrel's Gallery. · In.spite ofthe raiu we spent an,enjoyable time arid returned home filled with admiration .for 'the workmen. of·an· earlier and less mechanjcal day:' .. . . ' • At the end of last term we were.very sorry to lose our J;,ieutenant, Miss Rapson, and four Guides, but were glad to ,velcome Miss Fitzpatrick (Lieutenant) and eight recruits. There are now 36 Guides in the Company. ' On October 8th, 19t1, we started on 'l Red Cross Fund.. Wc picked and sold, blackberries and hips, and . knitted squares, hotwater- bottle· covers and ~yeshades.. . On December'3rd we.gave, a Concert for the same fund, and raised. £4 16s. Sd. by charades, a. tap dan~e, recitation, songs, shado,,, play, piano solo arid duet, finishing ,vith a camp-fire scene and songs. On December 17th we visited' the local supply depot to which we had sent the knitted·arti~les, .• , Lady Bruce Gardener !!nd Lady 'Lynn came .to sp'eak to us on January 28th about the various. ways in which we could 'lielp the Red Cross, and left us with renewed zeal and fresh ideas. We had a Social on :March 13th, Non-Guides were invited, and wc' played games, had competitions and sang sonjl's. May 6th began our Target :Month for the ·Baden-PoweIl Memorial Fund.. We coIlecfed jam-jars, 'bottles, etc., which.we.sold, and. held a Beetle Drive, .and by these me""s raised £2 5s. Od. To celebrate the end of the ye",r we hiketl to' Hart HiJI on . July 20th, and though we could n.ot cook as 'usual we had a,n enjoya1,>le outing, made more pleasant by the unexpected visit of our District Commissioner. Thirty-seven badges were ,awarded during !,he' year,. and the Guide' Cup ,vent to the Sunflower Patiol. . • • Jl[ARY KING. !' TARGET FOR TO-NIGHT." During the year the School was· taken to see the film "Target for To-niglit."
